This outlet is conveniently located in Paradigm Mall, with a
family style and also some private dining area to cater to individual needs.
The décor was nothing fancy but overall ambience is decent yet suitable for a
scrumptious meal with friends and family.
As usual it is always good to start a meal with comforting hot soup. Here we have Taang Shifu Signature Soup (RM38.90 for 2 pax). Contains Panax Ginseng roots, American Ginseng Cordyceps, together with dried scallop, mushroom, fish maw and a variety of Chinese herbs. Boiled and stewed for 8 hours gives a combination of infusion of all flavours in one sip. The bitterness from the ginseng roots was prominent yet not too overpowering. It gives the impression that the ratio of ginseng in the soup was really sufficient. The consistency and taste of soup was just about right, leaving you feeling soothing at the same time revitalised. It is said to provide benefits such as recuperate energy, revive vitality and improve immune system.
If you prefer soup without ginseng, this Ning Shen Remedying Soup (RM15.90) introduced next is a great option for you. Inside was generously filled with fish maw, chicken pieces that has been boiled till tender and Chinese herbs. The broth has a hint of sweetness and pleasant to drink along. Not to mention the spongy texture of fish maw has absorbed all the good flavours of the soup. This is said to calm mind and ease fatiqueness. Indeed a choice of soup especially after a long and tiring day at work.
Seldom to see chicken dishes being made as appetizers, but this Emperor Chicken Marinated in Wine (RM16.90) was decent. Being in a rolled shape, chicken thigh meat is used giving it a better texture compared to breast meat. It has softer texture than what I imagined, not a bad thing though probably because they cooked it for longer time. A small amount of gravy infused with wine flavours is good to go along with the chicken, also adequately marinated with right amount of wine. This dish is said to reinforce blood circulation.
Moving towards a heavier dish, this Home Braised Pork Belly (RM22.90) certainly looks enticing. What is not to love when the rich soy sauce flavoured tender pork has a layer of fat that instantly melts in the mouth? I don’t usually take fatty parts but in this situation, I just gave in. Not only the soy sauce is good to go with steamed rice, steamed bun provided is also suitable. Even better when Japanese cucumber sticks with fried garlic crisp added crunchiness and extra flavour. The latter was a brilliant addition that took the dish to the next level.
Fish Maw with Cod Fish Claypot (RM39.90)- improves lung functionality & immune system
The gravies and sauces here are just nicely seasoned while
containing some wok hei. Just like in this dish, the light gravy with hint of
oyster sauce is not a burden for the tastebuds, good to go with steamed rice
too. Some parts of the cod fish had a slight hard texture, not sure whether it
is due to it being frozen. Not to mention the fish maw was delicious as usual.
Claypot Beancurd with Sliced Dory Fish & Pickled Olive
(RM26.90)
The beancurd was a tad bland on its own as not much flavours from
the gravy being absorbed into it, but scooping for more gravy to go together
would just be fine. While the sliced dory fish was just decent, the needle
mushrooms provided extra texture to the dish. Nothing to shout about.
Pan-Fried Eggplant with Scallop in XO Sauce (RM16.90)
If you know me well, I love to eat eggplant. This was up to my
expectation as it was not too salty, just how a restaurant promoting healthy
dishes should have. The eggplant slices were not too oily, and my favourite
part was the flavourful minced pork. I just can’t stop having the gravy and
minced meat with steamed rice. For those who like rich flavoured dishes, this
might taste bland to you as the XO Sauce was not as rich as other versions.
Stir Fried French Bean with Pu Er (RM15.90)- relieves body heat,
reduces fat & balances blood pressure.
For a second I thought the Pu Er bits were pickled olive, but it
did not contribute a distinct tea aroma to the dish. As usual the minced meat
was nicely executed and matched well with the crunchy French beans. But towards
the end there was a tad too much oil.
Dried Scallops & Petite Abalone Mixed Rice (RM16.90)-
restructure spleen & rejuvenate mentality
Comfort food for those who like their rice in large amount of
gravy, just like the egg gravy in Cantonese fried noodles minus the egg. This
dish is a little bland for me. Nevertheless, the mini sized abalone, dried
scallops and mushrooms made a decent combination of ingredients in addition to
rice.
Angelica Dang Gui Stewed Pork topped on Rice/ Brown Rice (RM7.90/
RM8.90)
Once the minced pork is done right, the dish will be a success.
This applies to this dish and the flavourful and well textured minced pork goes
great with little gravy on steamed rice. A healthier option would be brown rice
which allows customer to have extra choice.
Braised Pork served with 4 black sesame buns (RM15.90)
The braised pork tasted so good on its own, with nearly zero fatty
parts which scored brownie points from me. Of course, have it with some lettuce
leaves provided together with fluffy black sesame buns. The pork was chunky to
the bite as it is not fully chopped till minced-like texture. Serves as a light
snack or even meal if don’t feel like having a complete meal. I can eat this
everyday.
Caramel Ginger Beancurd (RM5.90)
At first I thought this was served hot but it was cold instead, something
different that was a good idea actually especially having a cooling dessert
after the hot soups and dishes. The smooth yet firm textured beancurd warrants
more than one serving. The gula Melaka infused with ginger was thicker than
usual. It could have been stronger according to my preference, but for those
who dislike ginger this is not too strong and spicy.
