Bad Boy Cooks @ Setiawalk Puchong

Having heard of many positive comments about Bad Boy Cooks which its original outlet being situated at Oasis Square, Ara Damansara, the curiosity in me have always wanted to try and have my own verdict. Until a couple of weeks ago, I was invited for food tasting at their new outlet in Setiawalk Puchong. Well I think most you are not unfamiliar with this place packed with various restaurants, cafes and pubs.

Bright red American-styled seating area, nothing too fancy about the décor but just simple and good enough to gather with friends and family for a meal. You can opt for sofa seats or old school style chairs made from rubber strips. (literally lol, anyone knows the official name for it?)

It’s always good to start a meal with soup to warm up the tummy. We had Italian Tomato Soup (RM6) which was packed with natural sweetness from various veggies including finely diced carrots and celery, sitting in a non-cream style broth that has light fragrance from herbs and sour enough to wake up the taste buds. Definitely a different switch compared to the usual tomato cream based soup.

Bad Boy Caesar (RM8)- Classic romaine lettuce with boiled egg, beef bacon, parmesan cheese with Bad Boy Caesar sauce.

Needless to say the lettuce leaves were fresh and crisp, nicely coated with generous amount of creamy Ceasar dressing but not too overwhelming. One of the best Caesar salad that I have came across.

Bad Boy Wings (RM6)

Deep fried chicken wings then coated with their famous spicy chilli sauce. A bit of sweet and spicy kick there, one is never enough to satisfy my tummy. Don’t be fooled by the dry exterior as inside the wings were still juicy.

Al-Funghi Pasta (RM9)

Creamy carbonara style pasta with assorted mushrooms. Al-dente spaghetti coated with well seasoned creamy sauce, simple pasta at its best further enhanced with savoury beef bacon and juicy sliced mushrooms. You can add grilled chicken just for RM4 or an egg  for RM1. The grilled chicken had crispy skin while the tender thigh meat was adequately seasoned.

Tempura Fish (RM10- 3 pieces)

Dory fish fillets lightly coated with batter then deep fried till golden brown. The crunchy batter was not oily, encased within was flaky fish fillet with retained moisture. The boss added some homemade spicy mayo on top which gave a little numbing spicy sensation and I secretly wish I can have more of it :P With the very affordable price tag, I would say what a steal!

Grilled Fish (RM12)- Dory fillet chargrilled with garlic butter & herbs.

I would prefer grilled fish without a layer of flour coated on it. Other than that, the texture and freshness of fish has no issue. The creamy sauce had a nice texture and distinctive buttery taste that was not overwhelming, coupled with spongy mushrooms to provide extra bite.

Grilled Lamb (RM19)

Grilled deboned lamb shoulder slices marinated with garlic & spices. Definitely easy to consume when it’s being deboned. It had minimal or nearly zero lamb gamey taste while having a mild aroma from the spices, most of us enjoyed having it. Served with coleslaw, mashed potato and peas in creamy sauce. I like that the coleslaw is not overly mixed with heavy mayonnaise, while the mashed potato was not totally mashed until creamy texture but it still has tiny bits of potatoes in it. The cream sauce evident with black pepper was not too strong and complemented the mashed potato very well.

Slaw Dog (RM9)

Grilled sausage topped with wasabi coleslaw & cheddar cheese.

I liked the succulent texture of the sausage boasted with a light smoky flavour, will definitely return again for this. I would prefer if the cheese is melted, it’s really a matter of personal preference. The whole combination with fluffy bread makes a simple yet fulfilling meal.

Sloppy BB (RM13)- Beef patty topped with double cheese & chilli beef.

According to the foodies, the patty was rather juicy and firm enough to provide a satisfying bite. Some kidney beans were also added in the chilli beef mixture. Thick fries are always better than shoestring fries, decent enough to complement the burgers/ hot dogs.

Mocha (RM6)- add RM 1 for ice

Strong body of coffee plus chocolate which provides a balanced taste, this criteria is definition of good mocha to me. Glad to have found another alternative place that serves good mocha. I like how the coffee aroma that lingers and complements well with a slight bitterness from chocolate.

Latte (RM5)

Iced Lime Tea (RM4), or alternatively add just RM1 with every order of main meals.

Milk Tea (RM4)- Not sure about what tea leaves they used but I prefer a stronger tea taste. For those who like their milk tea just nice with light tea aroma, this is for you.

Bad Boy Madness (RM19)

Scoops of chocolate and vanilla ice cream, chocolate brownies, cookies, banana and fresh cream topped with chocolate chips, chocolate sauce and colour sprinkles- all nicely built up on a plate of madness! Definitely a great idea for birthday celebrations, good to share among many friends and family. A very mood-lifting dessert after having a bad day at work or school! :P

With the very affordable price tag and overall decent food, I hope they will maintain this same quality throughout. Will return for their Slaw Dog, Bad Boy Wings, Pasta and great coffee whenever I crave for them!
