The Journey Cafe, Setia Walk Puchong

Being a cafe lover person, I am constantly looking out for different types of cafes that serves varieties of cuisine with unique ambience that differs from each other. Thanks to Foodirector, I scored myself an invitation along with other usual bunch of outgoing foodies. It was nice to catch up with each other again over delectable Western dishes, cakes as well as gelato.

The Journey Cafe is situated towards the corner of the block but not too difficult to find as there are few bars/pubs located near to The Journey. Just opposite Club 9 or better, same row as 7-Eleven convenience store.

I have to comment that their music selection is great, suitable and matches with the relaxing ambience.

We started off with Fried Button Mushroom (RM12.90) served with mayonnaise sauce. Encased within the slightly greasy but crunchy thin layer of breadcrumbs is juicy button mushroom that goes well with some mayo dip. A great appetizer to start your 'appetite engine' but for the price tag, the portion is rather less reasonable.

Shrimp Bruschetta (RM9.90)

Lightly buttered and toasted baguette slices topped with prawns mixed with diced tomatoes and onions lying on lettuce leaves. I prefer my toppings to be slightly moist from sauces so this was rather bland for me. On the positive side, the prawns were succulent and firm to the bite.

Chicken Bruschetta (RM9.90)

For diners who can't take seafood, this would be an alternative choice for you. Again, this was rather bland for me but it is always good to have something light for the tummy and free from fancy sauces. Do eat this immediately after being served as the baguette will turn soft easily.

Grilled Chicken Salad (RM13.90)

This is easily a plate of refreshing salad composed with lettuce leaves, diced tomatoes, diced cucumbers coated with just the right amount of dressing. The chicken breast was minimally seasoned, not too hard to chew as well.

Swedish Meatball with Fries (RM11.90)

I can only comment on the fries which definitely satisfied my expectations thanks to the crispy exterior and soft potato-ey inside. The brown sauce served beside was well flavoured too, served as a good dipping sauce for the fat fries. The other foodie commented that the meatball lacked moisture which makes it rather dry.

European Continental (RM18.90)

Laugenbroetchen roll, two-egg-your-way, 2 beef bacon, 2 chicken sausages, baked beans and sauteed mushrooms. Good quality of sausages like the ones served here are one of the most important elements on any plate of hearty breakfast. I have never seen such a big sized beans so it was a rather special addition to this dish. Definitely a great breakfast plate to kick start the day. Check out another breakfast option below. How about some grilled beef tenderloin for breakfast?

Aussie Brekkie (RM18.90)

100g of grilled beef tenderloin served with grilled tomato, sauteed fresh mushroom, two-egg-your-way and toasted baguette. Aside from the average sauteed mushrooms which requires more flavours to it, the scarmbled eggs was a really pleasant and satisfying simple food. Creamy and soft texture that scrambled eggs should have, well done!

Smoked Salmon Sandwich (RM15.90)

Open style sandwich topped with poached egg and fresh slices smoked salmon with bursting flavours from ebikko, served with Hollandaise sauce and lemon wedge. This was crowd's favourite as the freshness and overall flavour did not disappoint.

Soft Shell Crab Spaghetti, Spicy (RM18.90)

Just the right spicy kick and fragrant olive oil infused pasta suitable for those who can't take overly spicy food. The batter coating on the slightly fishy soft shell crab was no doubt crunchy but little greasy.

Spaghetti Carbonara (RM14.90)

Easily one of the best carbonara around with boasting flavours from the light yet creamy based sauce, along with nice texture from mushrooms as well as chicken. Spaghetti could be done more al-dente but overall it was passable.

Beef Lasagna (RM17.90)

Aglio Olio Spaghetti with Shrimp (RM16.90)

Decent olive oil infused flavours coating every strand of pasta well, with hint of spicy kick from chilli flakes. Prawns were fresh, succulent and sweet, definitely earned some plus points.

Juicy Beef Burger (RM16.90)

Norwegian Salmon Steak Creamy Sauce (RM25.50)

Love the soft texture of the salmon steak thanks to the chef took care of the cooking time/ temperature control. Just the right doneness of the salmon is enough to justify this delicious and favourite dish of mine, even better with the flavourful creamy sauce which goes well together and does not cover the freshness of salmon.

NZ Lamb Grill Mint Yogurt Sauce (RM17.90)

I suppose that the mint yogurt sauce is used to cover the smell from lamb, I find it a little too strong to my liking. Was expecting a little sour hint from yogurt, but it was absent.

Australian Lamb Shank (RM48.90 for Ramadhan special promo set)

This is the dish to die for. Flavours, colour, presentation all checked. The sauce contributed a refreshing tomato hint, it just opens up my appetite even more. If I were to nitpick according to other possible customers' expectations, the lamb shanks could have been braised for a little longer to achieve even softer/ easily shredded meat. But to be honest I enjoyed the succulent lamb texture very much. Some might prefer it softer but no issue for me.

Let's move on to dessert session! One of the greatest way to end our meal is by having cakes! Do refer to the cake counter to check out the cakes offered for the day. Each sliced is priced at RM8.90.

Chocolate Fudge Cake

Irresistable rich decadent chocolate ganache layered between soft chocolate sponge. Nice to look at as well nice for the palate. Just the right sweetness, perfect to go with cup of coffee.

Red Velvet Cake

The cream cheese frosting was definitely one of the best- apparent flavours from cream cheese as well as a refreshing sour kick that goes well with well textured sponge cake.

Carrot Walnut Cake

Easily crumble apart for the fork action. I tasted more of the icing part instead of cake part consist of crunchy walnuts. Just not my type of cake. But Thomas commented that this is considered great for carrot cake lovers like him.

Raspberry Snow Cake

Decent cake with a layer of blueberry compote that provided refreshing sour taste. Not my type of cake though =P

New York Cheesecake

This is another favourite cake of the day. Some cafes may not get this right, usually due to the faint cheese taste. One bite of this and it reminds me of my mum's cheesecake version, does not contain overwhelming cheese taste but just right for the palate. The biscuit base is another winning point, crunchy and fragrant from butter used to cook the biscuit crumbs with. Thumbs up, must try!
Coffee

Mocha (RM9.50)

The Journey brews coffee beans from 5 Senses, flown directly from Roaster in Australia. A balanced espresso and chocolate elements are crucial for a good cup of mocha. What was missing here- chocolate that is nearly zero, lacked strong body of coffee as well.

Latte (RM8.50)

Gelato

I got to try 2 types namely Green Tea (Japanese Matcha) and Chocoholics. Both were awesome and makes me craving it for more, even until now as at time of writing. Chocolate gelato was incredibly rich, with hint of bitterness. I couldn't agree more the matcha powder used here is definitely top notch quality, strong (might be little overpowering for some) with fresh aftertaste and hint of bitterness as well. I will be back for more! Other flavours such as Strawberry Frogurt, French Vanilla, Mango, Calamansi, Banana Nuts Cinammon, Miced Nuts, Pistachio, Bubble Gum, Macadamia and even Durian are available during my visit. You will definitely be spoilt for choices!

So tasty food! Resto and cafes around Setia walk are really great! They offer best service and best food!

The Journey is one of the better restaurants in Setiawalk. Some are not that good - for example, see this - http://goodplace.my/blog/setiawalk - there are some quite unfavorable reviews there.

Hope to read more! Thanks for posting Mokky!
