Big Hug Burger, SS15 Subang

With various burger joints exist currently and opening up, I just need some time to catch up with visiting every single shop at my best effort. This will be my third burger place visited after myBurgerLab and GBK.

Long story cut short, let's take a look at the ambience of the restaurant.

Simple yet cheerful interior setting, feels like home. Free hugs from Mr. Teddy!

Notice the height of the table as opposed to sofas? Good thing you don’t need to bend down so much to enjoy your burger, how thoughtful!

Free flow soft drinks and various types of snacks to munch on while waiting for your burgers to be served

Onion rings as starters
Non-stringy and crispy but a little too oily on the inside. A further toss to drain excess oil would be better. Goes well with the light orange creamy sauce provided on the side, giving a hint of tangy flavor.
Cheesy wedges
Crispy on the outside with soft steaming hot potato inside. Not oily at oil, perfect wedges in my books. With the generous amount of mayonnaise and cheese sauce on top, simply a snack that is hard to resist while waiting for your burger to be served. Is it me or what, I find that cheese sauce lacking strong cheese flavour to further enhance overall taste.
The really soft and fluffy buns are freshly made in house giving a comforting bite to the burgers. You can choose either sesame buns, wholemeal buns or charcoal buns to go with your choice of meat. But the setback is you can only choose sesame bun for Big Hug burger and Cheesy Chicken Burger due the larger size of buns specially made for these burgers.

We started with Grilled Lamb Burger comprising grilled lamb patty, roasted cherry tomato, caramelized onions, Mozzarella cheese, cheddar cheese, Gherkins and fresh lettuce.

I seldom come across lamb burger and this was my first lamb burger to be honest. Although the patty contained strong lamb smell, but I accepted  and eventually like it. The patty was certainly juicy and had firm texture, paired well with crunchy gherkins that adds a little sour hint. I don’t usually fancy tomatoes but the cherry tomatoes used here is the reason for me to eat more tomatoes. I really love the natural sweetness that goes very well with the burger.

Grilled Beef
Grilled beef patty, roasted cherry tomato, caramelized onions, Mozzarella cheese, cheddar cheese , gherkins and fresh lettuce.

Grilled Chicken Burger
Grilled chicken patty, roasted cherry tomato, caramelized onions, Mozzarella cheese, cheddar cheese and fresh lettuce
Chicken breast meat that is reasonably juicy and tender enough, needless to be afraid of dry breast meat texture. Although there is no sauces added inside here, the other ingredients nevertheless created harmony contributing to decent taste.

Mario’s Chicken Burger
Grilled chicken patty, sautéed shitake mushroom, roasted cherry tomatoes, caramelized onions, roasted garlic aioli, Mozzarella cheese, cheddar cheese and fresh lettuce.
Didn’t get to try this burger, missed the shitake mushrooms L

Honolulu Chicken Burger
Grilled Chicken Patty, roasted cherry tomato, grilled pineapple ring, caramelized onion, Mozzarella cheese, cheddar cheese, Bolognese sauce and fresh lettuce.
I love how the tangy Bolognese sauce paired well with other ingredients especially pineapple ring, giving additional refreshing taste and juicy at the same time. The sauce is similar to conventional tomato based pasta sauce.

Big Hug Burger
Crispy chicken chop, cheddar cheese, tomato slices, onion rings, pineapple slices, secret sauce and fresh lettuce
The hint of curry taste in the crispy chicken chop makes this a special burger, other than it being crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside =D When you eat towards the outer edge of the burger, you might bite into only batter + burger buns. I would not say the chicken is coated with too much batter, as it is reasonable to have adequate amount of excess batter to give extra crunch. The ingredients went well altogether as well. Certainly a huge burger that challenges finishing it on my own.
Cheesy Chicken Burger
Crispy chicken chop, ham, fried egg, Mozzarella cheese, cheddar cheese, nachos cheese, tomato slices and fresh lettuce.
Pretty much similar to Big Hug but the Nacho cheese sauce plays a major role as flavouring agent here, and I am glad I liked it as it is not too strong and overpowering. Good for this burger but not so great for the wedges mentioned earlier.

Crispy Fish Burger
Crispy fish fillet, cheddar cheese, roasted garlic Aioli, tomato slices, fresh lettuce

I  have high expectations for burgers that contains fish as I personally love fish very much. Clearly this burger did not disappoint me. Upon biting on the crispy fillet, the moisture within is released along with natural sweetness of the Dory fish, with zero fishy taste like some other Dory out there.  The addition of roasted garlic aioli is a brilliant match as it contributes overall flavour and aroma. As you can see in the cross section, the flaky fish meat is really appetizing. I will  come back for more of this! =D
Grilled Salmon Burger
Grilled salmon fillet, roasted cherry tomato, caramelized onions, Mozzarella cheese, cheddar cheese and fresh lettuce.
Borderline overcooked salmon but nevertheless fresh and sweet. There is a little fishy taste in here but not bothering as the sweetness from roasted cherry tomato offsets it.

Fat and juicy fries made from high quality Russet potatoes, although sprinkled with herbs but did not contribute additional significant aroma. This is not too oily as well, nicely crispy on the outside while containing steaming hot potatoes inside just how I like it.
Check out the wide variety of dipping sauces available to go with the fries
Just Mayo- made in house, not too cloying.
Pink lady- a hint of sweetness that keeps you coming back for more
Monster Mayo (first row, on the right)- had similar taste as curry flavoured Twisties. Definitely one of the best dipping sauce for fries =D
Mint Mayo- light in texture and mint flavour, just nice for people who does not prefer strong mint.
Seafood Mayo- second best in my opinion. Love the light savoury taste.
Garlic Aioli- good for burgers as well as fries.
Swedish meatballs
Some of the foodies thought it lacked bouncy texture. The sauce was reasonably flavourful, but on the other hand the texture tends to thicken up into little starchy form when left to cool. Fruit jams should have a clear and smooth texture but the blueberry jam served along with the meatballs does not live up to the criteria.
